Serial San Rafael automobile thief nabbed by police

(KRON) — A 34-year-old San Rafael man, Christopher James Butler, allegedly led police on a number of chases in stolen automobiles and drove the wrong-way on Bay Space freeways.

Butler evaded arrest for weeks, and his actions “endangered countless lives,” the San Rafael Police Division wrote.

Through the investigation, Butler repeatedly evaded regulation enforcement by driving recklessly, together with cases the place he drove the unsuitable means on the freeway to evade arrest. His chases with police additionally included two occasions when he crashed two stolen automobiles and bolted out on foot.

“This type of reckless behavior endangers everyone on the road and is completely unacceptable,” mentioned Lt. Scott Eberle.

The seek for Butler ended Friday when officers discovered him at a neighborhood lodge. Butler arrived on the lodge in one other stolen automobile earlier than officers took him into custody, police mentioned.

“The safety of our community is our top priority, and we are relieved to have Butler in custody before his actions resulted in a tragedy,” Eberle mentioned.

Butler was booked into jail on suspicion of reckless driving, evading police, automobile theft, and excellent warrants. He stays in custody on a no-bail warrant.
