Beloved former Oakland Zoo elephant dies at Tennessee sanctuary

(KRON) — An African elephant who previously lived on the Oakland Zoo died at an elephant sanctuary in Tennessee this week, the zoo introduced Friday. Donna, described as “beloved member of the Oakland Zoo family,” was transferred to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee final 12 months.

She was transferred to the sanctuary after her zoo companions M’Dunda and Lisa had handed, the zoo stated. On the sanctuary, she lived with three feminine African elephants of comparable age — Flora, Tange, and Sukari — as companions.

On the time of her passing, work was underway to reunite Donna with Osh, a 30-year-old male elephant that was her companion on the Oakland Zoo. The development to attach their habitats shouldn’t be but full, so the elephants’ reunion by no means got here.

Donna was 44 on the time of her passing. She first arrived on the Oakland Zoo in 1990.
