The California Freeway Patrol is warning the general public to watch out for fraudsters posing as “AMBER Alert representatives” providing to “register” kids.

“They ask for confidential info and to meet at your home,” the CHP mentioned in a submit on social media. “This is NOT how the AMBER Alert system works.”

No registration is ever required, the CHP mentioned.

AMBER — which stands for America’s Lacking: Broadcast Emergency Response — is just activated by regulation enforcement companies investigating experiences of an kidnapped or lacking baby.

The alerts are supposed to supply the general public with instant details about a baby abduction.

The CHP mentioned it’s the solely company licensed to activate AMBER Alerts.

“Never provide personal information or answer calls from unknown or ‘possible scam’ numbers,” the freeway patrol mentioned.

If contacted by a scammer, the CHP mentioned, report it to your native regulation enforcement company instantly.
