Intruder Claims He Was Chasing a Fruit-Laden Animal in Belmont Home Invasion

(KRON) — A Belmont man who allegedly broke into his neighbor’s condo in September 2024 whereas the sufferer, her two kids and a roommate had been sleeping inside, has been discovered competent to face trial, in response to San Mateo County prosecutors. The sufferer advised police she awoke to the suspect pulling off her blanket as her kids slept in the identical room.

Cristian Josue CanelSian, 22, is accused of housebreaking and trying to dissuade the sufferer from testifying, in response to the San Mateo County District Legal professional’s Workplace. CanelSian was seen on a Ring digicam strolling by the sufferer’s condo at 3:15 a.m., in response to prosecutors. The DA’s workplace stated that the sufferer acknowledged the person on the Ring video as the identical man who approached her within the laundry room and requested if she was single, making her really feel “very uncomfortable.”

On Sept. 12, CanelSian allegedly went to the sufferer’s condo and requested her to not inform the police concerning the incident.

When the Belmont Police Division contacted CanelSian, he advised officers that he had been drunk “and followed an animal carrying fruit” into the sufferer’s condo, the DA’s workplace stated.

In November 2024, the protection argued that CanelSian was not competent to face trial. On Dec. 17, Dr. Yan Chan concluded in his report that he was competent to face trial and legal proceedings continued.

Prosecution and protection attorneys are scheduled to convene in a pretrial convention on the San Mateo County courthouse on Monday.

CanelSian stays in custody with out bail.
