Thousands Rally on Market Avenue Ahead of Trump Inauguration, Advocating for Immigrants and Palestine

There have been protests across the Bay Space and the nation over the weekend forward of Trump’s inauguration. However whereas there are actual, grave risks forward on this presidency, particularly for immigrant communities and trans folks, the protests in SF weren’t main attracts.

At Sunday’s rally in Civic Middle Plaza, which culminated in a march down Market Avenue, the group constructed to round 1,000 folks by the point the march bought going, just a little over an hour behind scheduled at 2:45 pm. Billed as a “No to Trump” rally, socialist activists on the occasion appeared to solely barely have Trump in thoughts — and probably the most seen image among the many marchers had been Palestinian flags.

As Mission Native places it, “Speakers led ‘Free Palestine’ chants, railed against deportations, and even called for a unified Korea without U.S military bases. Trump was a through line, but not always the focus of the march.”

A tent with screen-printing stations from The SF Poster Syndicate was producing free posters for marchers, considered one of which had Trump’s face and the message “America Out of Greenland,” and one other warned towards permitting Large Tech billionaires to be “in your pocket” within the type of smartphone apps.

As soon as the march commenced, organizers on a lead tuck led marchers in chants like “When Palestine is under attack, what do we do? Fight back! When immigrants are under attack, what do we do? Fight back!”

A banner on the entrance of the march mentioned, “United to Fight Trump’s Billionaire Agenda.”

Concerning the less-than-enormous crowd, one participant, Donna Wallach of San Jose, informed Mission Native, “Some people are fired up. Others feel hopeless and powerless.”

Round 1,000 folks additionally marched by the Mission District on Saturday, ending in Dolores Park.

Sunday’s march was pre-planned with the SFMTA and included bus re-routing onto Mission Avenue.
