Man Pleads Guilty After Allegedly Releasing ‘Aggressive’ Pit Bull on East Palo Alto Officers

(KRON) — An East Palo Alto man who in July 2023 allegedly despatched his “snarling” pit bull after cops conducting a welfare verify at his residence accepted a plea deal on Friday, the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Workplace introduced.

Antonio Dejesus Sotelolozano, 30, was ingesting at his East Palo Alto dwelling on July 22, 2023, and have become intoxicated, in accordance with prosecutors. The DA’s workplace mentioned the person fell whereas in his “drunken state” and injured his face. His mom discovered him and known as 911.

East Palo Alto Police Division officers arrived for a welfare verify. Sotelolozano “screamed at them to get off his property,” prosecutors alleged, and known as his “aggressive” pit bull named Raider to come back to the facet yard. Police warned Sotelolozano to not launch the canine, nonetheless, the DA’s workplace mentioned that he opened the facet gate and Raider charged on the officers.

The officers fled off the property and fired twice on the pit bull. Raider was not struck within the taking pictures and ran away from police.

Sotelolozano was arrested and charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer, two counts of assault with a lethal weapon and two counts of resisting arrest. Enhancements have been utilized to the assault costs over Sotelolozano’s 5 earlier strike convictions.

On Friday, Sotelolozano accepted a deal from prosecutors and pleaded no contest to 2 counts of felony resisting a police officer by power and in addition admitted to one of many prior strike convictions. The situation of the plea is for as much as 5 years and 4 months in state jail and a Romero movement consideration by the courtroom and DA’s workplace.

The opposite costs have been dismissed within the deal.

Sotelolozano’s subsequent courtroom date is scheduled for Feb. 25.
