30 Days of Chaos: 218 Arrests on San Francisco’s Troubled Sixth Road

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Police in San Francisco have arrested 218 individuals alongside town’s troubled Sixth Road hall over the previous 30 days, the San Francisco Police Division introduced. The arrests had been a part of intensified legislation enforcement efforts within the space.

The division has shifted sources to deal with the stretch of Sixth instantly south of Market in current weeks. In keeping with SFPD, foot beats have been added and officers from district stations throughout town are lending assist.

The enforcement on Sixth, SFPD stated, marks the most recent part of the SFPD Drug Market Coordination Heart (DMACC). Earlier DMACC enforcements have focused Seventh and Mission Road, and United Nations Plaza.

“Those areas have seen significant improvement in street conditions and reductions in crime,” SFPD stated. Enforcements in these areas additionally stay ongoing.

Of the 218 arrested alongside Sixth Road, 124 have been arrested for drug-related offenses, 36 for excellent warrants, 18 for assault, and 40 for different crimes.

“Our officers are working hard to make arrests and improve the unacceptable conditions along Sixth Street,” stated SFPD Chief Invoice Scott. “The SFPD has more work to do, and we are committed to addressing this challenge for as long as it takes. We have seen progress in other areas of the city, and we will ultimately see conditions improve in this area as well.”

Chief Scott thanked SFPD’s “hard-working officers” and San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie for “making his work a priority for his administration.”

Since taking workplace earlier this month, Mayor Lurie has pledged to make DMACC a 24/7 operation. He additionally launched the Fentanyl State of Emergency Ordinance to the SF Board of Supervisors, trying to unlock additions sources to fight town’s drug disaster.

Since DMACC was launched again in Might of 2023, SFPD has made 5,741 arrests and seized over 300 kilos of narcotics — together with 132 kilos of fentanyl.

Earlier this month, San Francisco Supervisor Matt Dorsey, whose district encompasses the Sixth Road hall, requested town to stipulate a one-year plan to make at the least 100 arrests per evening on the blighted part of road.
