SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — Ex-San Jose Councilmember Omar Torres was slated to enter a plea on Friday on the Corridor of Justice to face youngster intercourse abuse expenses. After his protection lawyer requested a delay, Torres’ arraignment was pushed again till February 14 and Torres returned to his jail cell.

The disgraced politician has been held in custody with out bail ever since his arrest on November 5, 2024. A decide beforehand dominated that Torres stays a hazard to minors.

A police affidavit obtained by KRON4 accommodates textual content messages from Torres by which he says he had oral intercourse with a 17-year-old. The texts had been exchanged with a 21-year-old Chicago man, Terry Beeks, who Torres had a web based sexual relationship with, the affidavit stated.

Whereas he was serving as a metropolis councilman, Torres allegedly requested Beeks about “finding minors,” Beeks advised police. On April 8, 2022, the 2 males texted about plans to satisfy for a sexual encounter with a number of folks. In keeping with the affidavit, the ex-councilman wrote, “U got any homies under 18. I want hella homies u will see i’m wild in bed.”

His protection lawyer advised KRON4 in October that the texts had been “outrageous fantasy and role play,” and “do not reflect any real-world actions or intentions.”

Expenses filed towards Torres stem from incidents that occurred between 1990 and 1999, when he allegedly raped a minor sufferer. In a recorded dialog between Torres and the sufferer, Torres admitted to sexually assaulting the sufferer 20 to 25 occasions, investigators stated.

The incidents started when the sufferer was simply 4 years outdated, a police report states, and continued till 1999, when Torres was 18 and the sufferer was 13.

Protection lawyer Nelson McElmurry stated a plea deal is feasible to resolve the fees. “He wants to accept responsibility (and) do the right thing. We just want to make sure the plea agreement is fair and consistent with charges of this type.”

The San Jose Police Division remains to be investigating to seek out out if the ex-councilman dedicated crimes in connection to the 2022 Beeks communications.

Torres represented District 3 till he resigned in November. This week, the Metropolis Council selected Carl Salas to fill the vacant seat for District 3. Salas will maintain the seat till a particular election is held in June.

If convicted, Torres is dealing with a most sentence of 24 years in jail.
