Measure that might see San Mateo County sheriff ousted passes by 'overwhelming majority'

(KRON) — Embattled San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus has admitted defeat in a particular election that might see her faraway from workplace. San Mateo County voters went to the polls Tuesday to weigh in on Measure A.

If handed, the poll measure would amend the county constitution to permit the Board of Supervisors the authority to take away Corpus from workplace.

“It appears Measure A has passed,” Corpus stated Wednesday in a press release to KRON4 Information. “Unfortunately, the vote took place at an off-cycle election where barely twenty percent of registered voters participated.”

With the vote nonetheless being tallied, KRON4 has not independently confirmed the proportion of county voters that participated in Tuesday’s election.

“I look forward to working with the new Board of Supervisors to discuss a collaborative strategy moving forward. With the passage of Measure A, I now have the opportunity to appropriately challenge and disprove the allegations against me and my administration,” Corpus’ assertion continued. “I am now entitled to a public evidentiary hearing before a neutral and unbiased body. My legal team and I look forward to this opportunity and are confident that I will be vindicated through a legitimate process.”

Chatting with the press Wednesday, San Mateo County Supervisors Noelia Corzo and Ray Mueller confirmed that Measure A had been handed by “an overwhelming majority of voters.” The supervisors didn’t take any questions from the press.

The sheriff is dealing with a number of allegations from inside her division, together with workers intimidation, making racist and homophobic feedback, and having an inappropriate relationship with an worker.

Corpus had remained defiant, refusing calls to step apart, and slamming efforts to take away her from workplace as “an all-time low” in a KRON4 interview.
