(KRON) — The San Mateo Police Division mentioned a 19-year-old retail theft suspect was arrested with the assistance of a drone and pepper spray launcher after he stole alcohol from a Walgreens retailer and hid below a freeway overpass Friday afternoon.

San Mateo PD confirmed it was alerted by a Walgreens retailer worker that the suspect had taken off on a bicycle. The suspect was shortly positioned by officers who have been already patrolling the world. Police mentioned the suspect continued to evade officers, driving his bike eastbound towards Freeway 101.

San Mateo police mentioned an officer tried to dam the suspect however was injured when the suspect refused to cease his bike. Police mentioned the suspect then hopped off his bike and ran below the third Avenue overpass that crosses over Freeway 101. The suspect entered the creek that runs below the freeway however was later discovered hiding on an embankment.

Police mentioned the suspect, recognized as Wilfran PerezGomez of San Mateo, didn’t comply with officers’ instructions to return out and give up. After an hour of negotiations, officers used a non-lethal launcher to deploy pepper spray close to Perez, which pressured him to exit.

Perez was taken to San Mateo County Jail the place he faces a number of fees, together with felony resisting a police officer, obstructing or resisting a police officer, and shoplifting.

Police didn’t present an replace on the situation of the injured officer.
