Amber Alert rip-off focusing on Hispanic residents: deputies

(KRON) — The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Workplace (SMCSO) mentioned it’s intently monitoring an Amber Alert telephone rip-off that appears to be focusing on Hispanic residents.

Suspects steal greater than $1,000 value of meats from Cupertino Safeway: sheriff

In line with SMCSO, residents must be looking out for scammers posing as Amber Alert reps who provide to register their kids by means of the alert system. Deputies mentioned potential victims are requested for private data and to have the ‘reps’ meet them at their residence.

Officers mentioned that isn’t how the statewide Amber Alert system works, noting “only law enforcement agencies can activate an Amber Alert and there is no registry.”

Deputies ask residents to not pick-up calls from unknown or “possible scam” numbers.

Anybody who has been contacted by the scammers is urged to name the sheriff’s workplace at 1-650-363-4911 and file a report.
