PITTSBURG, Calif. (KRON) — A number of lanes of eastbound Freeway 4 in Pittsburg had been shut down and BART service halted Thursday morning after a automobile crashed onto the trackway, killing the motive force, in keeping with officers.

The driving force of the car died within the crash simply west of Bailey Highway, CHP stated. In response to the Bay Space Fast Transit District, a car crashed at round 3:45 a.m. by way of boundaries and onto the BART trackway 100 ft south of the Pittsburg/Bay Level BART station.

BART issued a service advisory alerting commuters that service was stopped between North Harmony/Martinez and Antioch. Regular BART operations resumed at 7:30 a.m., and all lanes of Freeway 4 reopened at 7:40 a.m.

BART trackway repairs had been made after the car was eliminated. (BART)

The automobile “significantly damaged” the BART trackway’s third rail and required repairs as soon as the car was towed out, transit officers stated.

The reason for the crash is beneath investigation.
