Beloved San Francisco Ironmongery Shop Closes Its Doors After 88 Remarkable Years

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – After practically a century in enterprise, Papenhausen {Hardware} in San Francisco’s West Portal neighborhood is closing its doorways.

Andrew Bley, who lives up the road from the household enterprise, says he and others love that the realm is roofed in small companies. He says dropping Papenhausen is like dropping a detailed pal.

“West Portal is such a vibrant area and such a neighborhood, a village in the city. This is going to be a real blow,” he mentioned.

Asserting Papenhausen {Hardware}’s closure was exhausting for retailer supervisor and associate Andrew Aguilar. He mentioned he began working there in 1995 when he was 22 years previous and his son now helps out across the store.

“I’m used to seeing the same people every day. I’ve watched them grow up, their kids grow up and move away and back and being right in the epicenter of that,” he mentioned.

Aguilar says the shop is closing due to monetary issues linked to the pandemic. He says foot visitors within the space dropped considerably, and there are usually not sufficient parking spots for patrons.

“We wish we didn’t have to go, but we hope that we made your life better,” he mentioned.

Different longtime prospects like AJ Adler hope the shop will get at the very least changed with one other native enterprise.

“Kind of sad to see local stores closing. I miss local business, so I kind of like that it’s small and easy to go in, it’s not some major Home Depot type where you can go in and grab a few things that you need without wasting a lot of time,” he mentioned.
