Beloved San Mateo Sushi Spot Shuts Its Doors as Chef Retires

(KRON) — A longtime sushi staple is closing after a long time in downtown San Mateo. Sushi Sam’s Edomata is shutting its doorways for good on the finish of the month, the restaurant introduced in a social media put up.

Sushi Sam Edomata, situated at 218 E third Ave., could have its final day of service on Saturday, Dec. 28. The upcoming closure comes as proprietor and chef Sam Sugiyama is retiring after 36 years, in keeping with a social media put up by Sushi Sam’s Edomata.

Nonetheless, the restaurant is relocating and rebranding underneath new possession. Sushi Sam’s Edomata shall be shifting to a brand new location underneath the brand new title “Sushi Edomata.”

The restaurant didn’t announce who would be the proprietor of the upcoming rebranded location or the place it’ll transfer to. It is not going to be led by Sugiyama who’s dubbed because the “heart and soul behind Sushi Sam’s.”

“(We) want to extend (our) deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support over the years. You have made us a beloved part of this community and we couldn’t have done it without you,” the restaurant stated in a letter posted on-line.

Subsequent week, Sushi Sam’s Edomata shall be closed from Sunday, Dec. 22 till Christmas Day. It can reopen on Dec. 26 till its ultimate day on Dec. 28. Hours for its ultimate day of service are from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. till 9 p.m.

The opening of Sushi Edomata shall be introduced within the upcoming weeks.
