Campbell officer exonerated in 2024 killing of armed suspect

(BCN) — The Santa Clara County District Lawyer’s Workplace has dominated {that a} Campbell police officer lawfully shot and killed a person who fired at officers whereas wrestling with one other officer.Sgt. Najib Magee shot and killed 31-year-old Miguel Gomez on March 19, 2024.

A girl known as police, saying she was afraid of Gomez, her live-in boyfriend. She stated Gomez was on a multi-day methamphetamine binge and had advised her to barricade herself contained in the bed room of their condominium along with her two kids, prosecutors stated.

Police decided Gomez had a “peaceful contact” home violence restraining order towards him along with his girlfriend listed because the protected get together.

When officers contacted Gomez from the doorway of the condominium, Gomez allegedly jumped up from the ground and rushed towards the kids’s bed room whereas holding a loaded firearm.Munoz tackled Gomez within the adjoining hallway and struggled over management of Gomez’s 9mm handgun. Gomez was capable of hearth one spherical, practically hanging two different officers in the lounge.

Magee then shot at Gomez thrice, killing him, prosecutors stated.
