(KRON) – The Martinez Refining Firm’s newest fireplace emitted chemical substances and combustion byproducts that may trigger most cancers in addition to coronary heart and lung illness, in accordance with Contra Consta Well being (CCH).

Combustion byproducts from the hearth, in accordance with CCH, included particulate matter from the smoke, benzene, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide and xylene.

County officers are collaborating with a toxicologist to find out the long-term well being results together with potential impacts to soil and water, per the CCH. The refinery is scheduled to offer CCH with a 30-day follow-up report in March.
