CHP chase on Freeway 17 ends with 2 arrests

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KRON) — A pair of suspected auto thieves led California Freeway Patrol officers on a chase that started in Santa Cruz County and ended with assist from a tire-deflating spike strip in Santa Clara County early Wednesday morning.

CHP officers mentioned they arrested two youngsters, who’re each Oakland residents, on suspicion of felony evading, possession of a stolen car, and resisting arrest.

The incident started when a silver GMC pickup truck was stolen in Watsonville round 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. When CHP officers noticed the stolen truck on Freeway 1 in Aptos, the driving force hit the gasoline pedal. “Our CHP Santa Cruz officers sprang into action,” the CHP wrote.

The kids fled by rushing northbound up Freeway 1 towards Santa Cruz. The CHP chase continued over Freeway 17 into Santa Clara County. Whereas in pursuit, officers communicated with CHP officers positioned in San Jose who deployed a spike strip.

The spike strip destroyed the stolen truck’s entrance tires and introduced the car to a halt. CHP officers nabbed an 18-year-old Oakland man and a 17-year-old Oakland boy as they tried to flee once more, the CHP mentioned. The auto theft suspects’ names weren’t launched by legislation enforcement officers.
