Donald Trump Jr. floats thought of reopening Alcatraz

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Might Alcatraz reopen as a jail? Donald Trump Jr. floated the concept on social media on Wednesday.

Trump Jr’s feedback got here after his father mentioned he would signal an government order that will ship “the worst” prison undocumented immigrants to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

“Now this is a great idea. Maybe we should also reopen Alcatraz?!?!” Trump Jr. tweeted in response.

Alcatraz is probably the nation’s most well-known jail, but it surely has not been operational since 1963. It sits within the San Francisco Bay and is now a vacationer attraction.

The jail closed a 12 months after three males escaped and disappeared. The Federal Bureau of Prisons mentioned the closure was on account of bills — it value $3-5 million to maintain the jail maintained.

“The major expense was caused by the physical isolation of the island – the exact reason islands have been used as prisons throughout history,” the Bureau of Prisons’ web site mentioned.

Trump Jr.’s tweet had greater than 27,000 likes as of Thursday night time.
