(KRON) — On Wednesday, Elon Musk informed a Bay Space congressman to not “be a d—” in a publish on X, the social media platform he owns. The comment from Musk was in response to a tweet from Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Fremont).

Khanna, a long-serving Silicon Valley Democrat who caucuses with the Congressional Progressive Caucus, was tweeting in response to a report he’d abstained from a vote to subpoena Musk.

“I would have voted yes,” Khanna stated. “They called a procedural vote without notice & I like 8 others didn’t make it there on time. Musk’s attacks on our institutions are unconstitutional. He should be subpoenaed & answer to our committee. They should call the vote again with notice.”

The preliminary tweet Khanna was responding to, from Politico Congressional correspondent Daniella Micaela, has since been deleted.

“Don’t be a d—,” Musk tweeted in response. Musk, who’s CEO of Tesla along with proudly owning X, was appointed by President Donald Trump to move the Division of Authorities Effectivity (DOGE). The South African-born billionaire, who’s at present the richest man on the earth, has drawn criticism for his cavalier strategy to slashing federal applications, like USAID.

“Elon we have known each other a long time,” Khanna replied. “You can’t stop payments that Congress has authorized and appropriated. Make recommendations to Congress, but don’t stop payments. That’s Article I.”

“Also, let’s debate why we need the DOE (Department of Education),” Khanna added.
