Energy restored to Vallejo college that shut down after copper wire theft

VALLEJO, Calif. (KRON) — Every week after copper wire thieves minimize energy off to your complete campus of a Vallejo college is slated to reopen. The varsity’s superintendent speaks in regards to the effort to get college students and lecturers again at school.

The lights are again on at Solano Widenmann Management Academy in Vallejo — a bit greater than per week after your complete campus misplaced energy.

“We’re taking today to just test all our systems: our fire systems, our HVAC systems and school will be back to normal tomorrow,” stated Vallejo Metropolis Unified College District Superintendent Ruben Aurelio.

Aurelio praised the around-the-clock work district workers and contractors put in to revive electrical energy. Repairs had been initially estimated at as much as $250,000 however ended up at about $160,000.

“People ask me, ‘well, where do you get that money from?’ it’s not like we’re flush with funds and have a bunch of dollars we can shift to these types of repairs,” Aurelio stated. “It does impact our general fund. Aurelio says — though declining enrollment has severely impacted the varsity district’s state funding — the Widenmann campus shouldn’t be on the record of faculties that will doubtlessly shut to assist stability the finances. Aurelio says college students had a selection between persevering with their classwork at a neighboring campus or learning from dwelling whereas repairs had been made — including that about 40% of the kindergarten by means of eighth grade college students selected in-person studying.
