Prop 36 permits for a felony arrest if the suspect has at the very least two earlier theft-related convictions. The controversial legislation was handed in November, in search of to crack down on drug use and theft.

“In our ongoing effort to make our community even safer, the Fremont Police Department will continue to enforce the new drug and theft laws enacted,” FPD stated.

Individually, a 43-year-old Fremont man was arrested on the Fremont Hub on Dec. 18 and later charged below Prop 36. Police stated the person triggered a disturbance and stole a bottle of alcohol.
