FREMONT, Calif. (KRON) — The Fremont Metropolis Council is ready to vote Tuesday on a controversial homeless tenting ban. Together with stopping tenting anyplace in public, the measure would punish individuals who assist the homeless.

If authorized, the ordinance would forestall homeless folks from tenting on public property. That features parks, streets and sidewalks.

The Fremont Police Affiliation helps the ban. “Repeatedly dealing with some of these individuals can unnecessarily place firefighters and police officers in harms way,” the group mentioned on social media. “The passage of this ordinance allows the public safety experts to appropriately address public safety issues while still proving resources to our unhoused community members.”

The ban is up for a closing vote Tuesday on the 6 p.m. Fremont Metropolis Council assembly.
