Heroic Emergency Landing: Small Aircraft Touches Down on Historic Alameda Naval Air Station Runway

(KRON) — A small aircraft made an emergency touchdown Friday morning at an outdated, deserted runway on the decommissioned Alameda Naval Air Station, KRON4.com has confirmed. In response to the Alameda Fireplace Division, officers had been notified of an plane experiencing mechanical points and dropping altitude at 10:26 a.m.

The plane, which the FAA mentioned was a single-engine Cessna C152, had two individuals on board. An FAA spokesperson mentioned it landed safely on the decommissioned air station at round 10:35 a.m.

The pilot reported an engine problem, in response to officers. The Cessna was headed to Palo Alto Airport on the time of the incident.

The aircraft was in a position to land safely with no accidents to these on board or anybody on the bottom. No hazmat points had been reported on account of the touchdown, hearth officers mentioned.

The Alameda Fireplace Division dispatched its fireboat to the scene and requested help from america Coast Guard helicopter, which positioned the aircraft. East Bay Regional Parks is now dealing with the incident, which is of their jurisdiction.

Seventeen Alameda FD personnel had been dispatched to the scene.

The plane stays on the location of the touchdown, in response to officers.

Alameda NAS was decommissioned in 1997. Since then, it has been developed for blended use by town with residential and enterprise properties. The outdated runways are continuously used recreationally by cyclists, joggers, and folks strolling their canine.
