Hyatt employees in SF attain tentative settlement to finish strike

(BCN) — Resort employees who’ve been on strike for the previous three months reached a tentative settlement with Hyatt Motels Company late Friday, the workers’ union stated in a press launch Saturday morning.

It’s the identical four-year contract as one reached with Marriott resorts on Thursday that the union, Unite Right here Native 2, stated included wage will increase, preserved its medical health insurance plan, and would stop understaffing and workload will increase which have plagued the trade for the reason that COVID-19 pandemic.

Members of the union will vote on the Hyatt contract on Saturday from 10 a.m. to six p.m.

The contract covers about 600 Hyatt resort employees in numerous positions on the Grand Hyatt San Francisco, Resort Kabuki, and Hyatt Regency San Francisco at Embarcadero, together with 250 staff who had been on strike on the Grand Hyatt San Francisco on Stockton Avenue.  

“Winning this contract is the biggest victory of my life,” Sergio Hernandez, a busser on the Grand Hyatt San Francisco for 16 years stated within the union’s press launch.  

“Securing affordable healthcare and having respect on the job were my main goals. Now I won’t have to worry about our healthcare being cut. Everything we won was because of the sacrifice we made to fight for our rights. Now, I’m going to the Hilton to walk with them on the picket line until they win,” Hernandez stated.  

The identical contract was ratified by Marriott employees with greater than 99% assist, based on the union.

About 650 members of the union at Hilton resorts stay on strike and can proceed to picket on the Hilton San Francisco Union Sq. on O’Farrell Avenue.  

Unite Right here Native 2 represents about 15,000 resort, airport and meals service employees in San Francisco and San Mateo counties and the East and North Bay Space, based on the union.    

A Hyatt consultant didn’t instantly return a request for remark.
