Major Leadership Change: SFMTA Director Set to Leave Position

(KRON) –San Francisco Municipal Transportation Company director of transportation Jeffrey Tumlin has introduced he’ll depart his place as the top of the transit company on the finish of 2024.

Muni fares set to go up beginning Jan. 1

Tumlin has led the SFMTA since December 2019 and his five-year contract was on account of expire.

“Serving in this position has been the greatest honor of my life, and I’m extremely proud of what the SFMTA has accomplished during my tenure,” he mentioned in an announcement. “There is still far more to be done but I have full faith that our talented and highly motivated staff and leadership, working alongside city and state partners, will shepherd the agency into a successful new chapter.”

SFMTA director of transit Julie Kirschbaum will function appearing director of transportation beginning on Jan. 1, 2025. Mayor London Breed, who appointed Tumlin to the place again in 2019, misplaced in final month’s mayoral election so mayor-elect Daniel Lurie, who takes workplace Jan. 8, could have the chance to nominate a brand new everlasting head for the company.

Breed touted Tumlin in an announcement Friday as “a leader in building infrastructure, improving Muni operations, and making the hard decisions necessary for our city as we grow.”

SFMTA’s revenues in the latest fiscal yr had been 16% lower than earlier than the COVID-19 pandemic, with bus and light-rail automobile fares, parking charges and different income sources all down. State Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco, thanked Tumlin for his service to town.
