Meet the Newest Member of the North Bay Sheriff’s Investigative Unit: A Drug-Sniffing K-9!

(KRON) — The Marin County Sheriff’s Workplace is introducing a furry new addition to its Specialised Investigative Unit. Ok-9 Kiki, a springer spaniel, is specifically educated within the detection of a number of varieties of medicine, authorities stated.

Kiki and her handler Detective Schneider handed their certification check on Tuesday and are actually able to be deployed, in keeping with the sheriff’s workplace. Kiki is ready to detect the odor of fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine.

The spaniel was born in Eire on March 3, 2023, and is known as after Kiki Camarena, a Division of Drug Enforcement Administration particular agent who was killed within the line of obligation.

The sheriff’s workplace stated Kiki’s favourite off-duty actions vary from taking part in fetch or chasing squirrels.

“Kiki loves attention and can commonly be found laying on her back waiting to receive belly rubs,” MCSO wrote on social media. “Kiki is very social and would love to make new friends so please come pay her a visit and say hi!”
