WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KRON) — The homeowners of a Mexican present store are nervous they have been the victims of a hate crime. Somebody vandalized the enterprise, and it was the one retailer on the block hit.

Proprietor Erika Pantoja factors to the picket board, changing the window to her enterprise shattered early Saturday morning. “All the glass was broken — everything. You know, all over,” Pantoja stated.

The door of Portal Artesanal has already been fastened, however it’s going to take a little bit longer to restore the window. “It’s gonna cost about $3,000,” Pantoja stated.

Surveillance video (above) exhibits a hooded suspect casually strolling as much as the Mexican present store on North Predominant Avenue in Walnut Creek. The suspect breaks the glass after which walks off with out taking something.

With current protests in opposition to ICE raids in neighboring Harmony and issues within the immigrant neighborhood over deportations. Pantoja fears this was an act of hate in opposition to her Mexican heritage.

“That’s sad because we need to be, now, alert for something else or whatever that could happen,” she stated.

Proper now, this incident has been categorised as a housebreaking. Police haven’t indicated whether or not or not it is being investigated as a hate crime.

“I hope that the city, the community are able to see that we are, the Latino, Hispanic community are here, and then only want to make it for ourselves, for our families and also our communities,” Pantoja stated.

This July will mark two years for Pantoja at this Walnut Creek retailer. She says that is the primary time her enterprise has been burglarized.
