(KRON) — A number of streetlights in Morgan Hill had been disabled after authorities stated thieves stole the copper wiring from the poles. The Morgan Hill Police Division found the thefts on Sunday.

“Numerous” mild poles on Butterfield Boulevard, between East Dunne Avenue and Monterey Highway, had their copper wiring stolen, in line with police.

“The thieves accessed the wires by removing the concrete cover or digging underneath the concrete base,” Morgan Hill PD stated.

“It is important not to automatically assume legitimate work is being conducted, especially late at night or in the early morning hours,” police stated. “Often, the thieves will utilize professional-looking vehicles, equipment, uniforms, and safety vests to mask their crimes.”
