Purple Bull thief with 19 priors arrested underneath Prop 36: Union Metropolis PD

(KRON) — An individual who allegedly stole 30 cans of Purple Bull from a Greenback Tree in Union Metropolis on Tuesday was arrested quite than being cited and launched. Union Metropolis police touted that it’s the division’s first Proposition 36 arrest since its passage.

The Purple Bull theft suspect had beforehand been arrested and convicted of theft 19 instances, in accordance with the Union Metropolis Police Division, and has seven different pending theft costs. These earlier instances are “not including many other arrests where charges were not filed,” authorities mentioned.

The police division mentioned it was capable of “take a firm stance” on this case after California voters handed Prop 36 within the November basic election. As a substitute of issuing a quotation and releasing the suspect, the responding officer positioned him underneath arrest.

“Under Prop 36, people convicted of certain theft crimes can face increased punishments, including longer sentences and possible treatment programs,” Union Metropolis PD defined. “This law strengthens penalties for serial thieves, drug traffickers, and smash-and-grab crimes.”
