San Francisco State College Cuts Men’s Soccer and Other Sports: What It Means for Student Athletes

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco State College introduced plans on Thursday to chop three college-to-get-rid-of-employees-and-applications-to-avoid-wasting-24m-native-information-issues/” title=”Enrollment sagging, Sonoma State … to get rid of employees and applications to avoid wasting M – Native Information Issues”>sports activities applications as a part of its finances planning. The introduced cuts observe a finances assembly final week that was “particularly difficult,” in line with an open letter posted by SFSU President Lynn Mahoney.

On the assembly, the college reviewed “budget planning scenarios that all require deep budget cuts,” Mahoney stated. Because of this, SFSU can be eliminating three groups: Girls’s Indoor Observe and Discipline, Baseball, and Males’s Soccer.

“Last fall, the University formed an Athletics Task Force to address the ongoing budget shortfall in athletics and formulate a plan to create a sustainable model for Gator Athletics at SF State,” Mahoney’s letter continued. “The task force recommended we reduce our number of NCAA teams. After reviewing their recommendations in light of our current budget and enrollment projections, I have made the hard decision to eliminate three of our teams.”

Mahoney stated she acknowledged the cuts can be “particularly painful for the student-athletes it impacts, their families and their coaches — not to mention the countless alumni and supporters of these three teams.” She stated the college was dedicated to supporting those that are impacted by the choice.

“We will also assist those who wish to identify opportunities to transfer elsewhere to continue playing,” she added.

The elimination of the three groups is about to take impact on July 1.
