San Jose man indicted in violent assault of mailman

(KRON) – A San Jose man accused of punching a mail service, breaking his nostril, and fracturing his left orbital socket was indicted for assault and theft, in keeping with the Division of Justice. 

On Nov. 22, 2024, in keeping with the DOJ, Robert Cordova, also referred to as Robert Cordona, was accused of sticking his entire higher physique inside a U.S. Postal Service letter service’s truck whereas the mail service was behind the truck. The mailman felt the truck transfer after which noticed Cordova and confronted him. 

Cordova left the truck and punched the mailman within the face repeatedly, stated the DOJ. After the mailman fell to the bottom, the DOJ says Cordova “attempted to gouge the letter carrier’s eyes.”

The alleged assault occurred on the intersection of Taylor Road and thirteenth Road.

The mail service was taken to the hospital and recognized with a damaged nostril and a fractured left orbital socket.

If convicted, Cordova, 49, faces a most sentence of 25 years in jail, a $250,000 superb, and a five-year time period of supervised launch on the depend of theft of a United States mail service, and 20 years in jail, a $250,000 superb, and a three-year time period of supervised launch on the depend of assaulting a federal worker.

Cordova was discovered by San Jose Police Division officers within the yard of a home close to the alleged theft and was arrested. The mailman recognized Cordova as his assailant, in keeping with the DOJ.

Cordova was charged on Jan. 15 and was indicted eight days later. 

Cordova is scheduled to look in courtroom on Thursday for a detention listening to to find out if he must be jailed throughout the courtroom preceedings.
