San Jose Mayor Reveals Major Operation by ICE Brokers

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) —  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are in San Jose conducting an operation on Sunday, Mayor Matt Mahan’s workplace confirmed in a press release despatched to KRON4. The San Jose Police Division was notified that ICE brokers had been within the metropolis.

Amid considerations inside native Bay Space communities, Mahan mentioned he hopes ICE is just not concentrating on law-abiding San Jose residents however slightly criminals. SJPD is just not concerned in ICE’s operations “in any way.”

“I sincerely hope that ICE remains focused on enforcement actions related to violent and serious criminals harming our city,” Mahan mentioned. “Not neighbors who’re contributing and law-abiding members of our neighborhood.”

It’s unclear why ICE brokers are particularly in San Jose. Mahan’s workplace was not capable of present extra particulars at the moment.

Final week, a San Francisco Unified Faculty District (SFUSD) scholar reported an encounter with an ICE agent Thursday, claiming to have been requested for identification on a Muni bus. An ICE spokesperson later advised KRON4 that the coed’s report was not true.

Since President Donald Trump’s inauguration final week, considerations inside the undocumented neighborhood have risen. Trump’s first week in workplace included deportation efforts to crack down on unlawful immigration.
