San Jose Offers One-Way Bus Tickets to Help Homeless Individuals Reunite with Loved Ones

(KRON) — The Metropolis of San Jose is launching a brand new program Tuesday that may assist homeless individuals transfer out of the county again to their hometowns.

San Jose will give free, one-way bus and prepare tickets to unhoused individuals who “wish to reconnect with friends, family or other loved ones,” metropolis officers wrote.

Mayor Matt Mahan is scheduled to unveil extra particulars about this system, known as Homeward Sure, throughout a information convention Tuesday afternoon. San Jose’s pilot program is modeled after San Francisco’s Homeward Sure program.

Almost 10,000 persons are homeless in Santa Clara County, with an estimated 6,340 residing unhoused in San Jose, in accordance with a 2023 point-in-time census rely. San Jose has the fourth highest variety of unhoused individuals per capita in America.
