San Jose Volunteers Shatter Expectations with Over 40,000 Pounds of Meals Donated for 2024!

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — Volunteers in San Jose achieved a significant milestone on Sunday, surpassing their 2024 purpose of donating 40,000 kilos of meals.

10 years later: The place is the San Francisco SantaCon financial institution bandit?

The Farmers Market Venture, run by volunteers from St. Francis of Assisi Church, has been amassing unsold meals from the Evergreen Village Sq. Farmers Marketplace for the previous 15 years. This 12 months, their efforts resulted in over 41,000 kilos of contemporary produce being donated to these in want.

Each Sunday, rain or shine, the volunteers collect to gather unsold meals that farmers can’t promote or don’t wish to take again to their farms. The meals is then delivered to the Household Supportive Housing Venture on North King Highway. This shelter helps about 80 adults and 104 youngsters, offering them with contemporary greens year-round.

“They do not buy any canned goods or vegetables because we’re able to supply them year-round with the donations we get from the vendors,” one volunteer informed KRON4. “This is one of the better years we have on record now. It has to do with the generosity of the vendors giving us this produce and the number of volunteers who come every Sunday to help.”
