Santa Clara VTA plans for strike by transit union

(KRON) — Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) stated it was notified at its Thursday board assembly that members of Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Native 265 will go on strike starting on or after March 10 at 12:01 a.m.

VTA stated due to this, its bus and lightweight rail service could not function Monday morning. Some routes which are scheduled to run previous midnight may additionally see service interruptions. VTA advises commuters to take alternate modes of transportation equivalent to carpooling, ridesharing, utilizing regional rail, strolling and being. VTA Paratransit service will run as regular.

VTA has provided employees a complete wage enhance of 9 p.c over three years, with 4 p.c within the first 12 months, 3 p.c within the second, and a couple of p.c within the third 12 months, together with a bundle that features complete advantages and a pension plan.

“VTA is extraordinarily disenchanted that ATU is leaving the communities of Silicon Valley stranded with out much-needed bus and lightweight rail service,” said Greg Richardson, VTA Deputy General Manager. “We value our employees and have made a fair and reasonable offer. Our appreciation extends to the riders we serve. While VTA has tried to reach an agreement, through conversations as late as this afternoon, there has been no progress. We need the union to return to the bargaining table.”

ATU Native 265 represents greater than 1,500 VTA workers, together with bus and lightweight rail operators, dispatchers, and fare inspectors.
