SF supervisor requires 100 arrests per night time on drug-riddled streets

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco supervisor unveiled an aggressive plan to wash up the streets of his district on Friday.

A number of members of the group have criticized his thought. The San Francisco Coalition on Homelessness referred to as the plan “a page right out of Project 2025.”

“Reports of an initiative advocating for mass arrests along the 6th Street corridor as a pathway to treatment or detox are deeply concerning and counterproductive,” San Francisco AIDS Basis CEO Tyler TerMeer stated.

Whereas Dorsey needs his plan applied round downtown San Francisco, he singled out Sixth Avenue as an space the place town’s drug downside is particularly dangerous. The San Francisco Police Division estimated that 200 folks use medication on a quarter-mile stretch of the road every night time.

Dorsey himself is a recovered addict. He believes town’s present practices merely transfer drug customers across the metropolis, which results in “drug enablism and neglectful cruelty.”

He wrote that San Franciscans ought to count on to see legal guidelines towards public drug use totally enforced. Nevertheless, Jackie Fielder, who was just lately elected to be District 9’s supervisor, stated that arresting folks for drug use has been San Francisco’s technique since 2021. She referred to as arresting drug customers “not a serious strategy for San Francisco.”

Dorsey feels in any other case.

“Get drug-related offenders off the streets — and optimally into drug treatment — rather than simply moved to different streets,” Dorsey stated of his plan’s objective.
