(KRON) — A person employed at a San Jose highschool was arrested in late January after a toddler sexual abuse materials (CSAM) investigation recognized him as the first suspect, the San Jose Police Division introduced Monday.
Detectives with SJPD’s Web Crimes Towards Kids arrested Sherman Cater III, 38, of Cupertino, on Jan. 28. In line with police, Cater was “observed downloading and distributing” CSAM from his Cupertino residence throughout an investigation that ran from November 2024 to January 2025.

A search warrant executed at his residence situated units containing CSAM, authorities stated.
Throughout the investigation, detectives discovered Cater labored as an energetic para-educator at a highschool on the 3500 block of Zanker Highway. Authorities didn’t identify the varsity, although Kathleen MacDonald Excessive College is situated at that handle. The Santa Clara Unified College District is cooperating with the investigation, police stated.
Cater was booked into the Santa Clara County Essential Jail for possession of kid sexual abuse materials.
