Survivor of Two Police Shootings Faces Attempted Homicide Charges in East Bay

(KRON) — An East Bay man was charged with trying to homicide three San Leandro Police Division officers whereas he was underneath investigation for home violence, prosecutors stated Wednesday.

Reynaldo Melendez, 40, allegedly shot on the three SLPD officers on February 16.

“Melendez was driving a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle reportedly used as a weapon during a domestic violence incident in a Walmart parking lot in San Leandro,” the Alameda County District Lawyer’s Workplace.

Throughout the site visitors cease, investigators stated the felon opened fireplace on SLPD officers. The officers returned fireplace. Nobody was injured.

The county’s new District Lawyer, Ursula Jones Dickson, stated she has “zero tolerance” for gun violence.

 “The crimes which might be alleged listed here are very severe. The entire neighborhood is in danger when a gun is utilized in any crime,” Jones Dickson stated.

This week, prosecutors charged Melendez with three counts of tried homicide of a peace officer, 5 counts of assault, and three counts of kid abuse.

Melendez is scheduled to seem for a plea listening to on March 3. If convicted of all costs, Melendez will face 50 years to life in jail, prosecutors stated.

He has a historical past of violence in the direction of regulation enforcement, together with an incident on Dec. 25, 2017 when Melendez clashed with Alameda County Sheriff’s Workplace deputies. The sheriff’s workplace stated Melendez “held a machete over his head and aggressively advanced towards deputies. One of the deputies was forced to discharge his firearm at Melendez … striking him in the torso.”

The felon remarkably survived each the ACSO capturing and the San Leandro police capturing.
