Teen Duo Caught in Bold Armed Heist at San Mateo Macy’s

(KRON) – An incident of shoplifting escalated into an armed theft at a Macy’s within the metropolis of San Mateo, in response to the San Mateo Police Division. 

At 7:38 p.m. on Sunday, SMPD officers responded to the Hillsdale Buying Heart for a report of a theft. The division’s dispatch realized {that a} man stole objects, brandished a knife at safety and fought safety.

Upon arrival, officers witnessed a safety guard chasing a person via the car parking zone and again into the mall. Police stated the loss prevention officer was assaulted by the suspect earlier than they arrived.

Responding officers had been about to detain the suspect and located a loaded Glock .40 caliber handgun inside a satchel affixed to the suspect’s torso. San Mateo PD stated the firearm was found to be stolen out of Richmond.

The suspect was recognized as a 17-year-old East Palo Alto resident. The minor was not the identical suspect who brandished a knife at safety, stated SMPD. The assailant was recognized as 18-year-old East Palo Alto resident Jose Miguel Rodriguez Vasquez.

Police later realized the duo started stealing clothes and perfume merchandise. Because the suspects had been leaving the shop, Macy’s loss prevention tried to detain the suspects. San Mateo PD stated that’s when Rodriguez Vasquez pulled out a knife and threatened loss prevention and {the teenager} fled the scene.

The youngsters stole roughly $1,200 price of things.

Rodriguez Vasquez was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail for suspicion of assault with a lethal weapon, housebreaking, conspiracy, terrorist threats, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The unidentified minor was arrested and brought to the San Mateo County Youth Companies Heart for suspicion of obstructing of resisting an officer, housebreaking, conspiracy, minor in possession of a handgun, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and receiving stolen property.
