(KRON) — As a strike by South Bay transit staff stretched into its second day, the Valley Transportation Authority has no taken authorized motion to convey it to an finish. On Tuesday, the VTA filed a authorized grievance in opposition to the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Native 265 for breach of the “no strike” clause in an settlement cited by VTA between the 2 events.

The VTA stated its aim was to convey an finish to the strike “as fast as possible and to allow for the restoration of VTA bus and light rail services.”

“The strike is having an overwhelming impact on the community, and we are working on all efforts to support our riders getting to work, school, medical appointments, and events,” the VTA stated. “VTA is an integral part of the transportation network for Santa Clara County and the region overall. Getting our buses and trains rolling is imperative.”

VTA maintains it has been actively engaged in bargaining with the ATU since August.

“It’s unfortunate that those people at this point have to find an alternative mode of transportation, but this was not our intent,” union consultant Raj Singh informed KRON4 Monday morning. “We’ve been very upfront with the agency from day one on what our asks were.”

The union is in search of 6% wage will increase annually over the following three years, the VTA stated, whereas the company is providing a wage improve of 4%, 3% and a couple of% over three years.

The ATU represents greater than 1,500 VTA staff. On Monday night time, two of the picketing transit union members had been injured after they had been struck by a passing truck close to VTA headquarters.
