Walgreens to Close Two Locations in Oakland: What This Means for the Community

(KRON) — Two Walgreens shops are closing in Oakland subsequent month, the pharmacy retailer confirmed to KRON4. The places that may shut down are 5055 Telegraph Ave. and 301 E 18th St.

The Telegraph retailer will shut on Feb. 27, in keeping with Walgreens. The E 18th Avenue location will shut on Feb. 24.

There was no specified purpose for why the 2 Oakland shops have been closing. Walgreens merely stated it’s the “same reason(s) for all our closures.”

Walgreens cited components equivalent to working prices of hire, staffing and provide wants. The pharmacy large stated, “it is never an easy decision to close a store,” acknowledging every one is vital to the communities it serves.

The announcement of the Oakland closures comes every week after Walgreens stated it’ll walgreens-closing-12-shops-in-san-francisco/” title=”… closing 12 shops in …”>shut 12 shops in San Francisco. Though the precise cut-off date for every retailer remains to be not set, two of them will shut down for good by the top of February: the Franklin Avenue and Market Avenue places.

“When closures are necessary, like those here in Oakland, we will work in partnership with community stakeholders to minimize customer disruptions,” a Walgreens spokesperson wrote in a press release. “We intend to redeploy the majority of our team members from those stores that we close.”

The closures come after Walgreens introduced final yr that the pharmacy retailer would shut about 1,200 home places over the subsequent three years as a part of its “turnaround strategy.”

There are presently about 8,500 Walgreens in the USA.
