The transit company and the union that represents greater than 1,500 VTA employees have been unable to succeed in a deal on a brand new contract.

Roughly 100,000 day by day riders within the South Bay might want to discover one other method to get round. The Amalgamated Transit Union Native 265, which represents the hanging bus and lightweight rail operators, upkeep employees, dispatchers, fare inspectors and customer support representatives, recommended options to public transportation similar to carpooling, ridesharing, regional rail, strolling and biking.

VTA Paratransit service will proceed uninterrupted.

“It’s unfortunate that those people at this point have to find an alternative mode of transportation, but this was not our intent,” union consultant Raj Singh informed KRON4 Monday morning. “We’ve been very upfront with the agency from day one on what our asks were.”

The union is searching for 6% wage will increase every year over the subsequent three years, the VTA mentioned, whereas the company is providing a wage improve of 4%, 3% and a pair of% over three years.

“This offer maintains a competitive wage package for our operators, who are currently the second highest paid in the Bay Area and the fifth highest paid in the nation,” the VTA mentioned in a press release Sunday night time.

There is no such thing as a phrase on when the 2 sides will get again to the negotiating desk.
