NEW YORK (AP/KRON) — Cloth and crafts retailer Joann Inc., which has been a vacation spot for generations of quilters, knitters and lovers of crafts initiatives for greater than 80 years, goes out of enterprise and shuttering all its shops.

The announcement comes after the Hudson, Ohio-based retailer filed for Chapter 11 chapter safety in January, the second time in a 12 months. It cited sluggish shopper demand and stock shortages. On the time it vowed it could preserve all of its shops open.

However earlier this month, Joann stated it deliberate to shut 500 shops — or greater than half of its nationwide footprint. Different main retailers have lately introduced nationwide closures in Kohl’s and Walgreens.

The corporate stated in a question-and-answer part on its web site dedicated to its restructuring that the shops, Joann.com and the cell app will stay open and function because it conducts going-out-of- enterprise gross sales.

The retailer stated that the dates for retailer closures or adjustments to the web site will likely be posted as quickly as doable, and it stated it expects it’s going to take a “number of weeks to complete our final sales.”

Joann beforehand sought Chapter 11 in March 2024 and later emerged as a non-public firm. However after operational challenges continued to pile up, Joann filed for chapter once more in January.

“Joann leadership, our board, advisors and legal partners made every possible effort to pursue a more favorable outcome that would keep the company in business,” Joann stated in a press release posted on its web site. “We are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact on all our stakeholders.”
