(KRON) — A Santa Rosa UPS Retailer worker is accused of stealing greater than $18,000 in donation checks from a mailbox meant for a neighborhood nonprofit animal rescue group, the Santa Rosa Police Division (SRPD) introduced Friday.

Detectives with the SRPD Property Crimes Investigations started an investigation after Dogwood Animal Rescue reported on Tuesday that two separate donors had their checks deposited into an account not related to the nonprofit. The executives of the rescue informed police they believed that the checks had been stolen from their mailbox on the UPS Retailer, positioned at 1415 Fulton Highway.

Investigators decided on Wednesday that the suspect within the case, recognized as Jennifer Chenier, 36, of Santa Rosa, labored on the UPS Retailer location and had entry to the mailbox. Chenier was taken into custody by plainclothes detectives later that day on the enterprise.
