(KRON) — San Mateo cops discovered mail stolen from greater than 100 individuals who reside in cities throughout the San Francisco Bay Space on Friday.

The cache of mail, a few of which contained victims’ social safety playing cards and ID playing cards, was found inside a U-Haul van, in line with the San Mateo Police Division. The van additionally contained a whole mailbox that was stolen from an condo complicated.

Two folks ran out of the van when cops approached the U-Haul. They had been recognized by SMPD as 38-year-old James Spearman of Antioch and 42-year-old Erika Martinez of San Francisco. Officers chased the duo and arrested them.

The stolen mail was found because of a 911 name from a involved San Mateo resident who noticed two folks at 1 a.m. sporting masks and breaking into an condo complicated’s mailbox on La Selva Road.

SMPD wrote, “The witness saw the suspects get into a U-Haul van and leave the area. Officers arriving in the area where able to quickly locate the U-Haul van and attempted a stop the van. The driver of the U-Haul van failed to stop and fled the area, driving northbound on Highway 101. Officers followed the suspects into San Francisco where the van finally stopped on the 900 block of Florida Street.”

After a brief foot chase in San Francisco, Spearman and Martinez had been arrested and booked right into a San Mateo County jail. They’re going through a slew of prices together with identification theft, possessing stolen property, and drug possession.

“We continue to need the community’s support in reporting crimes and being a good witness. If you witness a crime, contact police immediately. Your observations can greatly assist law enforcement in their investigation,” the police division wrote.
