(KRON) — A person was killed in a fireplace early Christmas morning in Oakland whereas getting his household out of the home, in line with the Oakland Fireplace Division. OFD responded to the blaze at 6:15 a.m. at a residential construction within the 3500 block of Oak Knoll Boulevard.

Upon arriving on the scene, firefighters attacked the blaze. After alerting his household — father, aunt and brother — a 37-year-old man died within the fireplace. In accordance with fireplace officers, he seemingly turned disoriented and was overcome by smoke.
Crews discovered him unconscious inside whereas looking out the home. The reason for the hearth is beneath investigation.
“Our heart goes out to the family and their neighbors,” OFD stated.
