For over three decades, the Shadi holiday attraction in El Cerrito has been a beacon of community spirit and festive cheer. After a brief pause due to local renovations, a dedicated group of volunteers stepped up this year to restore the beloved tradition, transforming the downtown area into a winter wonderland reminiscent of Bethlehem’s historic charm. From handcrafted nativity scenes to illuminated streets, their efforts have rekindled the magic for residents and visitors alike, igniting excitement and bringing neighbors together once again.

Volunteer coordinator Sarah Mitchell highlighted the collaborative nature of the revival: “It’s truly a labor of love. Each participant, whether setting up decorations, organizing events, or coordinating with local businesses, plays a crucial role in maintaining the spirit of the season.” The event now features:

  • Live performances of carols and holiday plays
  • Interactive nativity displays with community involvement
  • Seasonal markets showcasing local artisans
  • Family-friendly workshops on traditional crafts
