San Francisco expands dorms at San Bruno jail amid rising inmate inhabitants

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The San Francisco Sheriff’s Workplace introduced Friday that it has reopened two extra dorms within the beforehand closed Annex at County Jail #3 in San Bruno to make room for a rising inmate inhabitants. Officers stated the rise is tied to town’s public security efforts to cut back crime.

One of many dorms will used for inmates with substance-abuse points, offering entry to particular person case administration providers, remedy teams, and referrals for continued care after launch.

“Our staff has worked diligently at the Annex to accomplish improvements to plumbing, outdoorrecreation areas, and our security system in order to make room for a growing jail population,” stated Sheriff Paul Miyamoto. “We are proud to announce that we have decided to have a dedicated housing unit at the Annex specifically for individuals who suffer from substance abuse disorders so that they can receive the cognitive behavioral classes and communal support they need to get back up on their feet.”

The Sheriff’s Workplace stated the jail inhabitants has elevated by 35 % over the previous two years, with greater than 1,200 prisoners in comparison with 816 in 2023.

Officers plan to open a 3rd dorm subsequent month.
