The wharf was closed after about 150 ft broke off at its finish on Monday when it was battered by waves that the Nationwide Climate Service estimated at as much as 30 ft excessive.

“All official fundraising efforts will be clearly communicated through official City of Santa Cruz channels, including our website and social media pages,” officers stated. “If you encounter what you believe to be a fundraising scam, please let us know. ”

The part that collapsed had been closed due to harm from earlier storms in late 2023 and early 2024.

Three individuals fell into the water when the collapse occurred, however nobody was injured.

Officers stated structural evaluation of the wharf and elimination of heavy gear that fell into the water might take a number of weeks to a month or longer.
