(KRON) — A 19-year-old man was charged with first-degree homicide on Tuesday for the taking pictures dying of Nathaniel Lee McCowan in San Leandro.
{The teenager}, Robert Donnelle Hughes, allegedly shot McCowan throughout an armed theft that occurred on April 1, 2024, in accordance with the Alameda County District Legal professional’s Workplace. McCowan was 26 years previous.
The homicide case is among the first to be prosecuted beneath the county’s new district legal professional, Ursula Jones Dickson. Prosecutors added particular enhancements to the homicide costs.
“This senseless loss of life is the result of a robbery with a gun,” Jones Dickson mentioned. “We cannot ignore the potential for physical harm, and death, associated with violent robberies in our community. We all must work harder to encourage less gun violence, and to ensure that when gun violence occurs, we support victims and families of victims as they seek peace and justice.”
In accordance with jail inmate information, Hughes was arrested on February 27 in San Leandro. He’s being held in Santa Rita Jail in Dublin with out bail.
Hughes is scheduled to look on the East County Corridor of Justice on Thursday for an arraignment. “If convicted, Mr. Hughes could be sentenced to a term of 25 years to life in prison,” the DA’s workplace wrote.
